The Cookery School at James St is a purpose built interactive kitchen and is perfect location for sharing our passion for produce and cooking with you. The Cookery School is run by Niall McKenna and his team of chefs.
We offer a great selection of practical cookery classes for food lovers of all abilities and avid cooks who want to improve their skills. Practical classes cater for groups of up to 18 people, each cooking at their own work station, and hob.
From time to time we run cookery demonstrations where you can relax, watch and learn from the professionals. Our most up to date schedule of classes can be viewed here.
In addition to our class schedule we offer private classes for groups of 12 or more whether this is for a fun night out, a corporate team building event or entertaining with a difference.

The team at Cookery School is made of chefs from the James St South restaurant group. This includes:
Prior to opening his first restaurant James St South, he worked with many of the first wave of Celebrity Chefs including Gary Rhodes, Marco Pierre White and in his first restaurant kitchen with Paul Rankin at Roscoff. Niall has since opened the doors to many other great restaurant’s in Belfast and has been honored with winning many great awards of which the Tourism Hero for Northern Ireland and an honorary diploma with the Belfast Metropolitan as his career highlights as well of course as winning a place at the coveted kitchen brigade of BBC Great British Menu program. Niall loves to cook and favors cooking for gatherings for brunch, lunch or dinner.
David has joined the team from his native England following cooking in many of the great hotels The Grosvenor, The Vineyard and finishing off as Head Chef at Thornton Hall. David has this year won a clutch of awards from Best Chef in Ireland and Best Restaurant in Ireland. David has a real passion for seasonal produce and has the perfect teacher as he manages and mentors the James St South Apprentices.
